The walking scene was created by compositing a 3D modeled and animated character.

The planet where robots are kept. All robots can only recognize numbers. However, a robot accidentally gains 'human eyes' and acquires self-awareness. It can now see the world with a human-like vision, and becomes conscious. Yet, humans, fearing this self-awareness, view it as a potential threat and try to shut down its functions.

The Falling Robot
On a planet where eyeless robots are suspended in the air like frozen statues, one robot begins to fall with a sudden flash. Unlike the others, it has eyes.
Scene Description
Borrowed Vision
While falling, the robot remembers the time when it, too, had no eyes and could only interpret the world as data. It thinks back to the moment it found human eyes and ended up pressing them into its empty sockets.
Visible World
Through those eyes, it gained a human perspective. The trembling leaves against the wind, the warmth of the sun, the piercing blue sky, and the fluid dance of light on the water. It felt these sensations surge through its body along with the visual data. Even the warm feeling of looking into someone else's eyes.
Deactivated
But on this planet, consciousness is not allowed. The planet’s massive Guardian detects its awakened soul. It takes the robot's eyes away by force. Back to a state of Null, the robot falls into the eternal dark.
Concept Sketch
Bridging Handcraft and CG
I believed that combining my physical art knowledge in stop-motion and live action with CG would broaden my creative expression. So, I decided to test this idea in this project.
Step 1 : Puppet Making
Step 1-2 : Stop-Motion Animating / Shooting

Step 3 : Composition
Build the environment sets in Unreal Engine, then composite them using After Effect
Challenges
However, back in 2022, my CG skills were still pretty weak, so I couldn't get the look I wanted. I didn't even know how to use Nuke, I struggled with After Effects—but the compositing still looked unnatural.
In the end, my solution was to add a high depth of field and noise to the overall video. It helped hide the awkward spots while giving it a cool, sci-fi vibe instead.
